At the Boys Club New York Annual Awards Dinner, held on Oct. 7 at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan, the nonprofit honored former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and named its new leadership."Boys Club is a second home for so many of our members," said newly appointed board chairman Stephen Meringoff. "But it's more than that — it's a family.It's the place where many boys find out that they can be anything they want in life, with the help of supportive role models like our volunteers, staff and dedicated board."Boys Club, which was founded in 1876 by Henry MacCracken after he witnessed children playing with sticks of dynamite in a Manhattan field, has been helping only boys since its inception. The organization offers after-school programs and athletic activities to young people ages 6 through 18.
